LYS Tour 2012: Day 1

Seattle Yarn Shop

Sign @ Seattle Yarn

The Puget Sound Local Yarn Shop Tour started yesterday!  It runs May 17-20th and sends us all around the area collecting passports from participating shops.  (Well, to be clear, there are 2 shop-hops: the LYS Tour that I’m doing, and the South Sound that covers the lower Puget Sound and Kitsap Penninsula.  Unfortunately they were scheduled the same weekend, boo!)  I’m sitting today out due to work but I did meet up with some friends from Ravelry and the Eastside Stitchers yesterday to hit a few shops together!  I missed out on one downtown Seattle shop, but here’s where I went…

Elly vs. Two Sticks

Tonight I abused any and all of the goodwill from my friends at Eastside Stitchers- they helped me learn to knit!

I tried knitting a few years ago. I used a pair of 10inch plastic KnitLites (which are awesome for their sole purpose of lighting up!) and some old Red Heart stripey yarn to attempt a plain-Jane garter stitch scarf. Of course I never actually finished the scarf.

So today was my new attempt. I still can’t purl for beans. A big thank you to f1bercat on Rav for hooking me up with bamboo sticks which were much easier to work with than my plastic ones. I never really thought it would make such a difference!

I’m going off pattern and just trying to practice my techniques. Continental is far more familiar since it’s so close to how I hold my yarn in crochet. I figure I’ll just keep trying before I give purling another shot… Baby steps!

In a not-so-brillant-yet-extremely-needed decision, on a very-untimely whim, I have decided to rename all my photos in chronological order to make my picture folders easier to navigate.

So far the new file structure looks like this:  (year)(month)(day) – (Project)-(#)

Once everything is renamed I can create web-sized photos and re-upload everything to my new gallery.  That’s original where I started my journey tonight, but I figured I might as well do it right.  Otherwise I would have done twice the work for nothing.  Huzzah!
